Get up, get out, hike Arkansas!

If you need directions to a meeting place, please call the hike leader. If you would rather join the group closer to the trailhead, please add that in the comments as you sign up for the hike, and the hike leader will contact you about the best rendezvous.

Location A - Van Buren - Cloverleaf Plaza parking lot by the stop light.

Location B - Fort Smith - Home Depot parking lot on the corner by the stop light.



Equipment

When hiking with the group, please bring all necessary personal items, such as water, lunch, sunscreen, etc., that you will need for an outdoor activity. Please be prepared for weather changes with rain gear and layers of clothing. Don't depend on fellow hikers to supply any of your needs. See our articles page for comments on hike equipment.

More Info: We will hike to the Maranoni Scenic Area on the Ozark Highland Trail for a distance or 5-6 miles rated moderate. There will be views of the Mulberry River valley, blufflines,rock formations, streams and waterfalls. Bring lunch and water. Meet at Cloverleaf Plaza, Van Buren, for an 8 AM departure. Bob is hike leader.

Event: Butterfield Trail at Devils Den State Park

More Info: We will hike from Hwy 74 for about 3 miles on the Butterfield Trail. We will explore scenic Quail Valley, Vista Point and Blackburn Creek. This will be an in-and-out hike for about 6 miles rated moderate due to rocky trail and elevation change. Meet at Cloverleaf Plaza parking lot for a 9 AM departure. Bring lunch and water. Becky will lead.

Event: Bluff and Coon Creek Trails at Robbers Cave State Park

More Info: We will hike two trails - Bluff Trail and Coon Creek Trail at Robbers Cave State Park for a combined distance of about 6 miles rated moderate. There is also a Nature Center, Heritage Center and Gift Shop to check out after the hike. Bring lunch and water. Meet at Home Depot parkng lot by the stop light to carpool/caravan. Larry will lead.

More Info: We will hike about 4 miles on the scenic and historic trail that winds through this area past an old cemetery, lake views, bluffs, creek and waterfall. The hike is rated moderate due to some elevation gain. Meet at Cloverleaf Plaza parking lot to carpool/caravan or at the trailhead. Indicate in comments where you will meet. Bob is hike leader.

Event: Big Bluff on the Buffalo River

More Info: It is a strenuous 5.5 mile round trip to thie 440-foot ledge where there are lots of interesting rock formations and great views of the river valley. Going in is easy but coming out requires a 1,000 ft elevation gain in 2.75 miles not steep enough for for switchbacks, just a continuous uphill trek. The view is worth the effort. Meet at Cloverleaf Plaza parking lot to carpool/caravan. Bring lunch and water. Linda will lead.

Although you are probably safer in the woods than you are in the city, you could be injured while traveling to or participating in a hike organized by the TrailBlazers Hiking Club. Our volunteer leaders are in no way responsible for your safety. You choose to hike and take the risk, so you are responsible for your own well being. Club leaders urge you to know your limits, take precaution and avoid risky behavior on the trail that could endanger you or others. If you do get hurt while on one of our outings, neither TrailBlazers Hiking Club nor our volunteer leaders accept responsibility. If you do not agree with this, please do us, and yourself, a favor by not participating. We don't want to sound harsh, but our rapid growth and large numbers require us to make this statement.
