Thirty-two TrailBlazers under the command of Captain Becky headed to the Pelsor area on a perfect autumn day to hike two scenic loops. We were all champing at the bit to get on the trail again because the last two weeks our hikes were canceled due to weather concerns.

We knew we would see some color (our own - orange!) because Becky had been warned that hunters might be in the area even though hunting is prohibited there. Check out our clothing! Because of the large turnout, we split up with Becky leading one group on the Falls trail first and Linda’s group starting on the Pedestals loop.

Alas, the recent rains did not have much effect on the trickle at Kings Falls, but the view there is always beautiful with some fall color. We all spent more time on the Pedestals loop where part of the trail is on top of a high bluff where there are beautiful views of the Pedestals and the valley below. The surprise treat for newcomers is the descent down to the base of the bluff line where they found out that there are many large, open caves tucked underneath the bluff trail where they had been trekking. We spent quality time exploring the caves that have interesting “windows” and even small skylights. Once in a while we need to get in touch with our inner child. Our “wild child” (guess who?) went into mountain goat mode and did some climbing – surprise, surprise!

Great day for hiking! Come hike with us next week at Petit Jean.
