Thirteen TrailBlazers, only 2 of the male persuasion, under the lead of Captain Linda had a perfect day for hiking around Lincoln Lake.

The storm last night was of short duration and featured more of a drama de son et lumiere than actual rainfall, so there were only a few muddy sections. We started out counterclockwise, with 2 renegades going in the other direction, and immediately had a rock hop before we started up a gently rising trail that took us through the woods over to the dam with its commanding view of the lake. On the other side of the lake we picked up the Piney Loop Trail that features a lovely, soft pine needle carpet with an A+ knee and foot rating. Becky suggested we do a little off trail exploring where we found a large gravel covered area that look like a river bed. Somebody had built a really neat stone cairn and Becky made one of her own.

Next we picked up the lake trail and saw lots of boulders, soaring rock formations, and a few caves. The lake is high right now so it was a tricky rock hop to cross a creek to get to our lunch spot. Then we headed up the boulder-lined trail to the highest point over the lake. En route Yours Truly tripped on a rock, whacked the bone under her left eye and both knees, and wrenched her left shoulder. Boy, what a photo op that would have been! Spurning formal medical treatment, she opted for a time-tested self-prescribed medication – a double dip cappuccino chunky chocolate waffle cone, a panacea for many ailments and for a hungry woman who had forgotten her lunch and eaten a 90 calorie granola bar!

After reaching the top of the cliffs we had a great view of the whole lake and an easy trek back to the cars. Larry decided to drive the scenic route back and took some satisfaction in arriving first to find that all our cars were still in the parking lot! Great hike, beautiful day!
