A January day with temperatures in the 40's, sunshine and blue skies made for a great opportunity to get out and enjoy the trails of Hobbs State Park.

Bill lead the way as seventeen TrailBlazers trekked the 4.25 miles of Wolf Den Trail. Although mainly used by mountain bike enthusiasts, only two riders passed by. The narrow trail is a loop from the parking area making it easy to navigate. There are several rolling hills throughout the course, which kept it interesting, although the trail is rated easy.

A few elected to add another mile to their steps by exploring the archeological findings on the historic Van Winkle Trail. This loop was well marked with placards describing the area from 1833-1966. Among the features were the Van Winkle homestead, gardens, logging camp, blacksmith shop, pen homes, and mill. During the Civil War troops often came to have corn milled. One could only imagine the magnitude of the commerce that was traded here on the banks of Van Winkle Hollow which feeds into Beaver Lake.
